The Independence Cup Win for Dali Swirl at Calcutta

The second last race of the Calcutta Races’ Monsoon Meeting third day brought a patriotic flair to proceedings with the running of the 1,400-metre, The Independence Cup for horses rated 41–66. The afternoon’s energy carried into the gates, promising another tightly contested finish.

Dali Swirl, partnered by Antony Raj S for trainer B Mahesh, travelled smoothly in mid-pack before pressing forward around the bend. With a precise burst in the final furlong, he surged past his rivals to win in 1:26.263, drawing cheers from the stands.

Owned solely by Mr Alfric Seldon Rego, Dali Swirl’s performance showcased both stamina and tactical speed.

Runner-up Snowpiercer, ridden by Shrikant Kamble for trainer P Quinn, was just slightly away at the line in 1:26.427, while Into The Storm, with P Tejeshwar up for B Mahesh, completed the top three in 1:26.538.

With The Independence Cup decided, attention now turns to the day’s closing contest, The Awesome Indian Handicap, bringing down the curtain on an action-packed afternoon of Monsoon Meeting.
