Proud Man Stakes 2025 Results: Diciassette Handles Slop in Style
Breaking cleanly from an inside draw, Diciassette settled in third behind early leader Street Player, with Wine Candy stalking to the outside. Ridden confidently by Jonathan Ocasio for trainer Patrick Biancone, the $100,000 Florida-bred son of champion Mitole bided his time, avoiding kickback and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Blocked briefly turning for home, Ocasio showed composure, guiding Diciassette back inside to reel in the fading Street Player and surge past Wine Candy in the final strides for a one-length victory. Khon Hahn produced a late rally for second, two lengths behind, with Wine Candy holding third and Trelawny fourth. The rest of the field included Fourth and Central, I’m Tuff Enough, Street Player, and Copernium, while morning-line favorite Squire was scratched.
Biancone praised both jockey and horse: “I told Jonathan to ride him like last time — no need to rush. When you have a lot of horse, you find a way to come out. He’s speed over speed, by Mitole out of a Henny Hughes family, so we’ll give him time to mature and aim for a good winter campaign.”
The colt’s pedigree and strong start have Biancone considering the Florida juvenile series later this year. His early form now puts him among the top sprinting prospects at Gulfstream Park, and Saturday’s Proud Man Stakes 2025 Results only strengthened his profile.
Sharp Susan Stakes: Willow Case Springs 25-1 Shock
While the feature followed the script, the Sharp Susan produced a form reversal. In just her third career start and first in stakes company, Willow Case produced a sweeping move from the outside to win going away under Leonel Reyes, who was enjoying a four-win day.
Tracking a fast early pace set by Evolution, with Dakota’s Lil Auror and Victory Music in close pursuit, Willow Case was positioned perfectly by Reyes. Once angled out turning for home, she powered clear to win by 3¼ lengths in 1:11.51. Tessellate rallied for second in a photo over Dakota’s Lil Auror, followed by Victory Music, Mo Hijinx, Street Belle, and Evolution. Two runners — Haute Diva and Late Night Text — were scratched.
Reyes credited the filly’s adaptability: “The track was sloppy today but she got a good position. When we came to the three-eighths pole she was really going good, and she galloped out strong.”
Trained by Ramon Minguet and bred in Florida by Sherry Mansfield and Ken Davis, Willow Case had broken her maiden at 4½ furlongs in April before Saturday’s upset win.
Form Impact and What’s Next
Looking ahead, the Proud Man Stakes 2025 Results could play a key role in shaping the juvenile sprint division across Gulfstream Park’s summer and autumn programs. The race could also prove a launching pad toward the lucrative FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes series, which begins with the $100,000 Dr. Fager on September 6. Biancone confirmed that Squire, second in the Royal Palm Juvenile earlier this year, will be targeted at that series after a brief freshening.
For Willow Case, Saturday’s Sharp Susan victory opens doors to graded stakes opportunities. Her proven ability to handle wet going could make her a threat in late-summer and autumn sprint stakes, especially if similar track conditions arise.
Both winners showcased contrasting styles — Diciassette with measured patience and Willow Case with sweeping aggression — adding depth and intrigue to Gulfstream Park’s 2-year-old division. Fans following the Proud Man Stakes 2025 Results will have plenty to watch as these young talents aim for bigger targets.
