Pune Meeting 2025 Special Race Day Opens with Oliver’s Winning Run

The 2025 Pune Meeting, Special Race Day unfolded under a moody, cloud-covered sky on Sunday, 10th August, at the Royal Western India Turf Club’s iconic Pune Racecourse. The track was rated good, with a penetrometer reading of 4.5 (Longchamp method), offering ideal conditions for competitive racing, and the opener did not disappoint.

The curtain-raiser, The Jockeys Association of India Trophy, a class IV handicap for Indian horses rated 20 to 46, saw Oliver deliver a commanding performance. Piloted with precision by Vivek G. for ace trainer Pesi Shroff, Oliver stopped the clock at 1:39:875, securing both victory and early bragging rights for the day.

The winner is owned by a prominent syndicate Mr Joydeep Datta Gupta, Mrs Ritu Puri, Mr Sanjay Datta Gupta, Mr Debasish Mishra, Mrs Daisy K. D. B. Mehta & Mr Dara K. Mehta rep. Darashaw Bloodstock Pvt Ltd, Mrs Rashmee A. Amersey rep. So Blest Trading Co. Pvt Ltd, Mr Milan Luthria, Mrs Liane Luthria & Mr Avinash Gupta.

Treasure Gold, partnered by S. A. Amit for trainer Bezan Chenoy, battled strongly to claim second in 1:40:073, while Wind Dancer, with N. Bhosale aboard for Dallas Todywalla, finished a close third at 1:40:390.

With the Jockeys Association Trophy decided, attention now shifts to the Western India Race Horse Owners’ Association Trophy, promising another clash of high-calibre contenders.
