Juvenile fillies take center stage on Saturday at Gulfstream Park as the Sharp Susan Stakes 2025 highlights a promising lineup of rising talent, headlined by the returning Evolution after her troubled Saratoga outing.

Sharp Susan Stakes 2025 brings Evolution back to familiar ground

Arindel homebred Evolution is back home in South Florida and looks to reclaim her early-season spark in the $75,000 Sharp Susan Stakes 2025, a six-furlong dash for 2-year-old fillies on the main track. The race headlines an 11-race card, sharing top billing with the Proud Man for colts and geldings. First post is scheduled for 12:50 p.m.

Trained by Carlos David, Evolution was eased in the Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga on July 4 after stumbling out of the gate and pulling a shoe. “We just got unlucky,” said David. “From the one hole it was not a good spot. So, we brought her back to Florida, regrouped, and she’s been doing everything right.”

Evolution impressed earlier this year with a gate-to-wire victory on May 15 at Gulfstream. Prior to that, she debuted at Keeneland behind a Wesley Ward runner and ran a clear second. With a pair of sharp works at Palm Meadows under her belt, she’ll break from Post 6 under Edgard Zayas, who piloted her maiden win.

Among her challengers in the Sharp Susan Stakes 2025 is Mo Hijinx, trained by Bobby Dibona for Wolf Pack Racing, Keith Johnston, and Robert Murray. The Indiana-bred daughter of Caracaro impressed with a professional debut win on July 12 at Gulfstream. “She’s really nice,” said Dibona. “Each time I worked her, I walked away with more confidence.”

Mo Hijinx will break from Post 2 under returning rider Miguel Vasquez. Her dam line includes champion sire Uncle Mo, and she sold for $92,000 as a 2-year-old in April.

Also in the mix are recent winners Dakota’s Lil Auror, Tessellate, Willow Case, and Victory Music. Willow Case and Dakota’s Lil Auror scored locally during the Royal Palm Meet, while Victory Music led gate-to-wire at Churchill Downs on June 29 for trainer Mike Maker.

Late Night Text, initially considered for this race, will instead target a maiden at Ellis Park, while Patrick Biancone may scratch Haute Diva for a future opportunity. “She had a very bad draw but ran a very fast second,” Biancone said.

Street Belle, who ran fourth behind Mo Hijinx in their debut, rounds out the field of nine for the Sharp Susan Stakes 2025.
