The Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) kicked off the second day of its Monsoon Meeting on August 5th, 2025. The opening act, The Jeweller Handicap, a sharp 1100-meter sprint for horses rated 1–26, unfolded with no whips allowed, a regulation that often heightens the test of skill between horse and rider.
Under the careful guidance of Vishal N Bunde, Sky Hawk, the tote favorite, surged to victory in 1:07.034, showcasing blistering early speed and clean execution. Trained by Sabeel Shariff and owned by Mr. Shanmugam Yuvraj, Sky Hawk’s performance affirmed both the horse’s consistency and the stable’s readiness for the monsoon campaign.
Trailing just behind was Kindred Spirit, gamely ridden by Shrikant Kamble for trainer B Mahesh, clocking 1:07.185, a narrow margin that made for a tense finish. Swift Lady, handled by Md Azharuddin for Rutherford Alford, rounded out the trifecta, arriving in 1:08.085.
The Jeweller Handicap offered total stakes of ₹3,00,000 and more importantly, an early momentum swing for connections at this crucial phase of the Calcutta season. With Sky Hawk setting the tone, eyes now shift to the next feature of the afternoon, The Cadman Cup, as the action continues to unfold at this storied venue.
