Speedy Wilson Real Good Deal Stakes 2025 Triumph Confirms Potential
Returning from a lengthy layoff, Speedy Wilson showed no signs of rust. Ayuso gave the colt a patient ride, tracking just off the leaders before unleashing a strong late burst. “He’s just a good horse,” said Ayuso. “He broke well, sat off nicely, and I didn’t want him out too early. Once we hit the stretch, he knew what to do. He’s matured a lot as a 3-year-old and I think he’ll be even better going longer.”
Trainer D’Amato was equally enthusiastic: “He’s the real deal. I think he can handle open company and two turns. It was a great ride, and Nick (Alexander) deserves all the credit—running one-two with homebreds in a stake like this is special.”

Connections Celebrate Stakes Milestones at Del Mar
The Real Good Deal Stakes 2025 win was Ayuso’s first stakes success of the meet and his third career Del Mar stakes win. For D’Amato, it marked his third win of the current summer season and his first in this race. Nick Alexander, based in Santa Ynez and Del Mar, continues to see his stallions Grazen and Tough Sunday make lasting impacts on the California circuit.
Speedy Wilson, now with earnings of $241,650 and a record of 3 wins from 5 starts, may be headed for longer distances or even graded company. His versatility on both dirt and turf has been noted, and connections are optimistic about his future.
