Scarlet Sands Dominates Miss Gracie Stakes 2025 at Gulfstream Park
Scarlet Sands Miss Gracie Stakes 2025 victory added another chapter to the Omaha Beach filly’s growing resume, as she captured her fourth consecutive win and first on Tapeta at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, July 26. The Carlos David trainee led gate-to-wire under jockey Edwin Gonzalez, stopping the clock in 1:40.49 for one mile and 70 yards.
Owned by Raleigh Racing Stable, Scarlet Sands made her stakes and synthetic debut in the Miss Gracie Stakes Gulfstream result and delivered confidently. She broke alertly and controlled the pace throughout, holding off a strong closing run from Crafty Collector to win by a neck.
Scarlet Sands Miss Gracie Stakes 2025: Front-Running Brilliance
Previously a consistent turf performer, Scarlet Sands had run six of her seven starts on grass. But in her Tapeta switch, she handled the surface with ease. Pressed early by Special Aviator, she carved out steady fractions of 23.87 and 46.51 before fending off late bids in the stretch.
The Scarlet Sands Miss Gracie Stakes 2025 effort was especially satisfying for trainer Carlos David, who claimed her for $75,000 in February.
“She came away from there really good. I knew somebody was going to come after her… but she was able to put [Special Aviator] away around the far turn,” David said. “It worked out good.”
Gonzalez Executes Perfect Ride
Edwin Gonzalez followed David’s plan to let the filly run freely if she wanted the lead. That confidence paid off. Scarlet Sands dictated terms without resistance and had enough left to repel her rivals late.
“I told Edwin, ‘Don’t take anything away from her.’ There was no speed, so I didn’t want him fighting her for position. Let her do her thing,” said David.
Scarlet Sands Eyes Lake Placid Stakes 2025 After Miss Gracie Win
David passed on shipping Scarlet Sands to Saratoga for the Grade 3 Lake George on the same day — a decision he said proved wise. Daisy Flyer won that race narrowly, but Scarlet Sands picked up valuable black type at home.
“We’ll see how she comes out of this,” David said. “If all is good, maybe we take a shot at the Lake Placid Stakes 2025 next month.”
With the Scarlet Sands Miss Gracie Stakes 2025 win behind her, connections are confident in her ability to step up again — possibly in graded company.
